Sojourner #009: For His Glory; The Carter / Hart Team Begins Planning Next Mission Trip To Honduras
"Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous works among all the peoples!" (1 Chronicles 16:24)
On the evening of January 9, 2025, the Carter / Hart Mission Team hosted the first interest meeting at White Springs Baptist Church in Rainbow City, AL, USA, regarding their upcoming mission trip with the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission to Intibuca, Honduras this summer.
The team leaders, Cory Carter and Larry Hart, welcomed returning team members and those who are interested in being a part of the mission team, recalling stories from previous trips and reminding them of the real reason that they go to Honduras every year: to share the love of Christ with the nations.
The democratic republic of Honduras is home to over ten million people, bordering three other Central American nations: Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. The country's beautiful landscape offers numerous natural resources like coffee, fruit, sugar cane, and more. Hosting tropical rainforests, harsh mountains, coastline beaches, and flatlands, the country's landscape is incredibly diverse.
The first Protestant missionaries arrived in Honduras in the late 1800s, but the influence of the Roman Catholic Church remains strong, as they control many aspects of daily life in Honduras and preach a gospel that is contrary to the faith that has once for all been delivered to the saints.
In the mountains of Intibuca, a light shines in the midst of great darkness.
The Honduras Baptist Dental Mission operates out of a compound called "Alas de Fe" or "Wings of Faith" that allows them to take the good news of Jesus Christ to the surrounding communities through the faithful preaching of God's Word, frequent medical clinics, and various other mercy ministries throughout the region. The Honduras Baptist Dental Mission also has a compound outside of San Pedro Sula that conducts similar operations in the northern regions of Honduras.
The Honduras Baptist Dental Mission is a non-profit 501(c)(3) mission organization that "aims to spread the Gospel to the people of Honduras by filling both physical and spiritual needs, fulfilling God's instruction in James 2:15-17, and living the Great Commission from Mark 16:15" (HBDM).
The Carter / Harris Team deploys once a year to aid the full time missionaries who run the day-to-day operations in Honduras in whatever way they are able. Historically, this entails construction projects and medical clinics, working alongside local medical teams and endeavoring to support them however they can - so that the Gospel might be taken to the ends of the earth, beginning in their own communities.
These Gospel partnerships are vital, as missions work can be extremely difficult at times. In the midst of these difficulties, these partnerships remind us that the Kingdom of God truly belongs to every people and tribe, every nation and tongue. God is doing great works among the nations, and the individuals who serve with the Honduras Baptist Dental Mission are on the front lines of that effort.
This will be the 25th year that Larry Hart has traveled to Honduras to serve the people there, and he looks forward to the opportunity that God has graciously afforded to him to serve once more. Other members are less seasoned, while others have been traveling to Honduras for over a decade. The emphasis is clear: anyone can take part in fulfilling the Kingdom mandate to take the Gospel to the nations, no matter your age or experience.
The Honduras Baptist Dental Mission believes that medicine is the magnet that draws people to Christ (HBDM), and the Carter / Hart Team shares in their belief that while the people they serve are in great need of physical healing, their greatest need is that they know Christ; that they receive a greater healing from a greater disease: sin. Praise God that this salvation has come through His Son, Jesus Christ the Righteous.
Their meeting on Thursday is the first of many planning sessions that will be conducted in the coming months. One of their current tasks is to raise awareness for their mission and raise funds to support the trip. Supplies like rice and beans and medicine and clothing and more must be raised for their upcoming trip quickly. This task is not easy, but Cory Carter reminded those at the meeting that Christ is sufficient to provide all that they need.

Here at Sojourner, we believe in supporting those who take the Gospel to the ends of the earth, who preach Christ crucified, and who share His love with the nations.
Our request to readers to two-fold:
First, we as that they join us in praying that God's will would be accomplished here on earth, that they would earnestly pray for those who go to the nations to share the Gospel.
Second, we ask that they support missions in whatever way they can, whether that be by going with them, giving financially, or helping them along their way.
There are several ways you can support the Carter / Hart Team:
- You can travel with them to Honduras
- You can pray for them as they plan their trip
- You can give financially to the team
